801 E Sangamon Ave, Springfield, IL 62702
A walk through the historic route 66 experience from end to end. This sidewalk includes structures that have pictures and iconic moments in time to encapsulate the peak of its popularity and recognition. Small towns flourished and tourism was booming in the early development of the highway system in 1926. Since the iconic route was abandoned by the construction of Interstate Highway 55 in 1985, the route has since been chopped up and is no longer a consistently managed route. Some cities have completely abandoned its significance all together.
The Illinois State Fairground thought it necessary for the iconic roadway to be remembered for the ages with this memorable dive into nostalgia.
