CAUTION TO RIDERS: Springfield has the old Rt. 66 split to accommodate for changes over time, which may confuse some riders. The road conditions are like most city streets and one-way roads are everywhere.
This town is rich with history and has plenty of places to visit. There is shopping, wineries, breweries and distilleries to visit. There are museums and art all around and too many sites of interest to mention here. However, the most notable would be the giant Illinois State Capitol. This massive building is larger than the Nations Capitol in Washington D.C. Also, Abraham Lincoln, arguably one of our greatest Presidents of our Nation's history, and his family resided just a short walk away from the State Capitol. A must see for any history buff or someone who simply appreciates history and the work that was being accomplished in that time.
Unfortunately, the town is practically a ghost town with nobody around and nothing going on unless the lawmakers are in session or there is a convention in town. However, there are plenty of great stops to accommodate all travelers along Rt. 66 and downtown area if you are looking to shop and explore there is a lot to see.
